ITEC 1025 – Networking Fundamentals

Course Overview – ITEC 1025

This course is Networking Fundamentals: ITEC 1025. This course covers the basic concepts of networking. Network topologies, media types, the OSI Model, and networking protocols are discussed and explained.  The use and purpose of Local Area Networks (LANs) and Wide Area Networks (WANs) are covered as well. This course helps students understand the how networking works and how it is implemented in different scenarios.

Course Reflection: What I Learned in ITEC 1025

This course has taught me a lot about networking. I thought I knew how a network really functioned before taking this course, but I was wrong. I now have a much better understanding of how LANs and WANs work and what their purposes are. I will admit, this course was more difficult for me than I had anticipated and it took a lot of study and practice in order to understand some of the concepts. A few of these concepts included the OSI model, subnetting, and some of the networking protocols. I still struggle a bit with subnetting but I am hoping that I will be able to learn more about it and implement it in the future. I know it can be useful, especially if I decide to become a network administrator. I know that there is a lot more for me to learn about networking, but I am grateful for this course because it has given me a foundation on which to build my IT skills.
